About

Continuo, the UGent Alumni and Personnel Orchestra, has opted for a musical adventurous course. With “Onbegrensd”, the orchestra briefly omits European musical traditions and explores the broad musical spectrum beyond. The repertoire includes the African-American composer Florence Price, who elegantly interweaves classical music with blues, and the Syrian composer Shalan Alhamwy, who echoes images from Aleppo in his music. In addition, the orchestra unites its forces with the Taiwanese soprano Chia-Fen Wu, Fem Devos (piano), Iranian soloist Ehsan Yadollahi (tar) and Paul Klinck (violin), all conducted by Kevin Hendrickx.

Fount Magazine’s ‘The mash-up’ category is an artist-exchange platform. In the 1st round artists from all over the world provided works of art, inspired by the theme ‘Connect’.
Then followed the 2nd round in which Studio Studio had the opportunity to be creative with a piece of art by Nikolai Dobreff. He invited us to connect the old fashioned way, by writing with pen and paper.
We got inspired by words he wrote and designed a poster based on his letters.
First we mashed up his question and freely distilled his message. In a second stade we got inspired by the meaning of the words and decided to add graphic elements.

Every year the city of Destelbergen (Belgium) organizes a festival called Leven in ’t Park. Studio Studio was invited to submit a proposal for this occasion. The submitted design visualizes the course of the festival which consist of 3 parts (of ‘timetables’): morning, afternoon and evening. Several activities were planned during those times. We designed a typographic image for the general recognizability.

Nrmal, a unique music festival that takes place in Mexico City asked Studio Studio to collaborate in a poster exhibition held during the festival. They curated a list of 30 international graphic artists and freelance designers with a strong approach to experimentation and a very personal insight of design. The idea was that each designer creates one artwork with a very simple topic or theme “to discover”.

The student association of St. Lucas, Antwerp, Creatica, asked Studio Studio again to donate work to sell at their art auction. The Art Auction itself became a highlight in the cultural activities of the school. A lot of people came to help raise money for the student association to organize activities such as equipment for workshops, analog photography, film developing and printing, and trips to museums.

For this project, Studio Studio was inspired by the encyclopedia, one of the first victims of digitalization. Paying tribute to this medium, Studio Studio inverts its hierarchy and plays with its characteristic elements.
