Since 2018, Studio Studio has been the graphic design partner of BINST ARCHITECTS, the Antwerp-based architecture firm formerly known as Crepain Binst Architecture. The collaboration began with the full rebranding, in which a new name, a new wordmark and a new tagline were developed alongside the typographic framework that would carry the firm’s communication across print and screen, and was extended into the signage for its physical spaces and the broader set of printed collateral used day to day, from note blocks and business cards to invitations and banners.
The substantial part of the original assignment, however, was structural rather than graphic. The firm needed an identity that could be used by architects themselves, across offices, projects, client presentations and publications, without constant supervision from a designer, and Studio Studio built a modular system around the new identity to make that possible: a typographic framework, a component library, and a self-service tool that allows architects to assemble their own project bundles from a set of pre-designed elements. The visual rules remain fixed; the configurations vary with each project, each team, and each occasion.
That system has since become the foundation of a longer working relationship. Studio Studio designs and produces the firm’s half-yearly in-house magazine, from B 01 in October 2018 through to B 07 in 2023, with seven issues to date, and was responsible for the design and development of the firm’s website, aligned with the same visual framework. The identity, the publications, the digital presence and the spatial communication are handled as a single ongoing system rather than as separate commissions, and are maintained and extended with each new application as the office grows.
