The approach starts with ideas, not decoration. Design serves its content, context and users, which means clear logic, conceptual restrictions and objective choices over endless options. Every project is a dialogue between clients, audiences, software and materials. Books, prints and objects: the physical work matters. The same thinking extends into the digital, with the same precision.
Some projects are systems: identities that extend across years and formats, tools that let clients build independently on a shared logic. Others are singular objects: a book, a poster, a typeface. Both follow the same principle. The concept comes first. The form follows from it.
Studio Studio was founded in Ghent in 2014 by Mathieu Cieters, who also teaches graphic design, digital design and web development. Three ventures run alongside the client work: Another Graphic, a typographic archive maintained for over a decade; Graphic Graphic, a platform which aims to demystify and elevate Belgian graphic design; and Typo Typo, a type foundry focused on conceptual and narrative typography. The work has been published in Taschen, Plus 81, Étapes, form Design Magazine and Design 360° among others, and shown at numerous festivals and institutions from Bozar and Design Museum Gent to Graphic Design Festival Scotland and NRMAL in Mexico City.
