  • Context
The unchosen designs presented here were initially intended for a podcast on VRT Max focused on dispelling the misconception that social exclusion targets specific demographic groups. Instead, the aim was to illustrate that anyone could experience social exclusion due to various reasons such as personal choices, accidents, illnesses, divorces, or generational poverty.

Originally titled '24/7 error,' the podcast took a digital typography approach, incorporating elements like the 404 error, reminiscent of TV errors from the cathode era, and a monospaced font. Although the podcast's title evolved during production, the designs featuring a dynamic interplay of typography and placement were ultimately not selected. Nevertheless, we appreciate the creative use of typography and placement, allowing for the integration of two intertwined layers – the typeface and a background shape. The shape, though not always distinctly related, subtly alludes to concepts of 'chances' and 'connections' like a dice or a clover.

Initially, our approach leaned towards a visual rather than a typographic focus. We initiated the creative process by exploring the concept of glitches, drawing inspiration from the distortions observable on cathode TVs. This exploration naturally led us to delve into the recreation of patterns and glitches.

It's worth noting that the inspiration for these glitches extends beyond the realm of cathode TVs to encompass the irregularities witnessed on a spectrum of digital displays, including the fractured screens of mobile phones. This broader perspective allowed us to incorporate a diverse range of glitch aesthetics into our designs, capturing the essence of visual anomalies that can arise from both analog and digital sources.

Additionally, the patterns we explored held significance as they served as a nod to the empty patterns commonly used in digital drawing software. This subtle reference added another layer of depth to our design concept, bridging the gap between the tangible glitches in physical displays and the virtual canvas of digital artistry.
