ContextCharleroi Danse is a choreography centre operating across two post-industrial sites in Charleroi and Molenbeek. They reached out to us for the creation of a new identity. Our proposed identity revolves around the concept of gesture, encompassing both the physical movements of the body and, more symbolically, the artistic gesture. During the research and brainstorming phase, we found inspiration in the art of calligraphy, drawing parallels to the graffiti present in Charleroi’s post-industrial zone and the industrial buildings of Molenbeek.Bypassing standard institutional branding, the visual language draws a direct parallel between the discipline of calligraphy and the urban graffiti native to both locations. Both practices rely on a rigorous control of movement, speed, and spatial composition. This shared physical logic dictates the design parameters. The identity functions through continuous typographic layering and overlapping messaging. Rather than presenting a static logo, the output operates as a kinetic registration of bodies in motion. It builds a dense, evolving visual space that grounds the institution’s contemporary performances in its industrial roots.
