For the Nike Spring/Summer 2016 collection, Studio Studio was commissioned by Nike USA to translate the creative journey and graphic explorations of its research project The Graphic Nomad into two printed t-shirts. The brief was to carry the visual logic of an independent typographic study onto a global apparel collection.
Psychedelic rhythms intertwine with the Nike wordmark and the Just Do It tagline. Rather than illustrating the type or framing it, the design absorbs both into dense, line-based patterns that bend and distort them. The branding remains present but unstable. Recognition has to do some work.
The result reduces two of the most familiar marks in global apparel to a rigorous optical structure.
