STILL / 63 TIGERS IN BALI is a limited-edition publication commissioned by the tattoo artist Levi Malfait, in which 132 pages of Polaroid photographs are sequenced in a small 125 by 185 millimetre format, after the model of Ed Ruscha’s 1963 artist book Twentysix Gasoline Stations. The title names a species, the Bali tiger, that has been extinct since the 1950s, so that the count the photographs accumulate towards stands in for something which, by the terms of the title itself, cannot be photographed at all.
