Commissioned by Fedrigoni for the ‘Another Month Another Paper’ initiative, this project operates as a strict material test of typographic reproduction. A series of four offset-printed cards was constructed to investigate the physical limits of ink on paper. Bypassing conventional decorative applications, the design functions entirely as a controlled experiment in halftone rendering, colour separation, and exact print registration. By methodically altering specific variables across the four documents, the output isolates the mechanical processes of the press. The resulting series acts not as a set of promotional images, but as an objective registration of industrial print capabilities.

Each card isolates one parameter: form, line, image, or type:

  • Card 01 tests form through scale, colour, and opacity. Shapes enlarge and reduce, shift across CMYK, and move from transparency to full opacity.
  • Card 02 studies linear variation. Lines start at 0.1 pt, rotate in fixed increments, and expand through spacing. Silver and black are tested in overprint trapping to measure legibility.
  • Card 03 examines FM dithering. Images move from diffusion-dithered to non-diffusion, then separate into CMYK and layer systematically over a 0–100% silver gradient.
  • Card 04 isolates typographic constraint. The composition uses only Adobe InDesign native effects, sizes from 15 to 1 pt, leading from 18 to 3 pt (×3), monochrome black and white, and a 2.5 mm grid. No manual intervention. The constraints are aligned to offset press resolution limits.

Technical specifications:

  • 4 × A5, recto verso. Offset CMYK plus silver.
  • Papers: Arena Rough, Arena HD, and Splendorlux.
  • Printed by Robstolk Amsterdam on a KBA Rapida 106 HR-UV using FM screening (Agfa FM-3).
